Interview with Sergio Baudot, Sales Director of Sol y Mar Hoteles

This section called MAXinterviews aims to inform through experts about truly unique projects that have a differential value. With only 3 questions and answers, we seek to discover what is happening in the tourism industry with emphasis on the MICE segment and the destination Spain.

Sergio Baudot is the Sales Manager of Sol y Mar Hotels since July 2008 and he will soon celebrate his tenth anniversary with the company. This professional experience places him as an expert in the commercialization of two MICE reference hotels in the area of Costa Blanca.

Sol y Mar Hoteles has two establishments of 4* a few meters from the Mediterranean Sea. Gran Hotel Sol y Mar opened its doors in 2006 and has 330 magnificent rooms. Suitopía Sol y Mar Suites Hotel was opened in May 2017 and offers 230 rooms, and 200 of which are Suites of 75m2. Both hotels offer meeting rooms for all types of celebrations.

You have been in charge of the commercial department of Sol y Mar Hoteles for a decade. What has been the evolution of the chain in these 10 years?

There’s no doubt we have learned a lot through the opinions of our clients, the market is constantly changing and so is the demand of the public. Our best tool has always been the criteria of our guests and we truly take that into account. We have grown in terms of business, but also in knowledge.

In your opinion, what are the main values ​​of the Costa Blanca to attract groups from the MICE Industry?

Undoubtedly, the main value we have is the good weather throughout the year. Our average temperature in winter is 18º (between November and March) and we have more than 310 sunny days per year. Another value we have is the high quality of the hotel plant and the facilities available for the MICE segment. The Costa Blanca offers endless activities for Incentive groups that can be carried out both on the beach and in the mountains. Our location is a determining point, since we are located in the town of Calpe, less than an hour from Alicante Airport and an hour and a half from Valencia Airport.

Why should an event organizer choose your hotels for your next event? What is your differential value?

We are located in the urban center of Calpe on the beachfront, which undoubtedly is an important incentive, as it gives us unique spaces that I invite you to see on our website. Both the Beach Club of Gran Hotel Sol y Mar and the Sky Bar on the 29th floor of Hotel Suitopía have incredible views of the sea where you can perform any type of event with Mediterranean essence.

We have almost 600 bed rooms and meeting rooms with a capacity of up to 600 people with natural light and ceilings over 4 meters high. We provide all kinds of services and help to develop any type of event taking care of the smallest detail.

In addition, gastronomy is an important asset for us, since we only use fresh products and elaborated by ourselves (we do not work with frozen food). We have a gastronomic restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine and sea views, perfect complement for any type of group.
