Casa Bonay was designed by Barcelona’s natives and opened in 2016. It is housed in a notable 19th-century structure in the Example, only 5 minutes away from the city center and 25 minutes from the Barcelona airport. The old building, from which Casa Bonay has been renovated, was the Bonay family’s 19th century mansion, where the hotel owners put the goal of preserving the property’s stunning original characteristics, while creating a vibrant, creative place to meet for neighbors and visitors.
The founder of Casa Bonay, has updated the structure’s traditional identity with inspiration from Barcelona and the Mediterranean in close collaboration with Brooklyn-based design studio Studio Tack in order to showcase the building’s spaces and character.
There are 67 cozy modern bedrooms in Casa Bonay, some of them facing the city, while others are equipped with an intimate terrace addressed to the inner courtyard of the hotel. The historic mosaic flooring and natural light from the rooms’ windows, balconies, and terraces, are complemented in the bedrooms by modern furnishings from regional designers and custom textiles with elements of green and blue.
The hotel differentiates themselves not only through its design, but also by welcoming their guests in a more caring way. In the rooms guests can find some amenities that are not ordinary for hotel equipment. Yoga mats, movie streaming from the MUBI, bath products from Malin+Goetz and a unique mini-bar are present in each Casa Bonay’s room to maximize the comfort of the stay.
By combining the harmonious confluence of components that were not meant to coexist, Casa Bonay reflects not only a brand but also a mindset.
The MICE concept in Casa Bonay also distinguishes 5 unique spaces for private events. Nica, the largest meeting space, over 370m2, can accommodate in total 250 people and 70 people in the theater set-up. Nica has direct access from the street and its own bar, where private meetings, banquets or live music shows can be organized.
The gastronomic offer at Casa Bonay is divided amongst 4 spaces. Libertine is a spot where guests can stop by for a cup of coffee, work quietly, eat comfort cuisine for lunch or have dinner with a special cocktail. On the other hand, natural wine is a main speciality of Bodega Bonay, a restaurant where the chef creates the menu using mostly the local products from the neighborhood. The Chiringuito rooftop bar with seasonal barbecue and Satan’s Coffee Corner is a perfect place for morning coffee, which completes the gastronomic offer at Casa Bonay.
The hotel was built and is managed, implementing the philosophy of environmental impact and sustainability. Many aspects were taken into account, as for example LED lighting, water restrictors on the taps and integration of local business and community.
